Let’s get started!

Task 1: Add instructions for homework
First, we’re going to add a short message to guide students through their homework tasks.

In the Week 1 tile, just below the Pre-seminar task, let’s add a Text and media area. I set up the Title in course index and then paste my text and format the heading. When I’m done, I select Save and return to course.

Task 2: Create a Choice activity
Next, we’ll add a Choice activity to get students thinking about time management techniques.

Underneath the homework message, I add a new activity and select Choice. I add the activity name, description and the different options students can choose from. The task asked me to set the activity to show results to students after they answer, and publish results anonymously, so let’s check those settings.

Under Results, I change the Publish results setting to Show results to students after they answer. The other setting, Publish anonymous results, it’s already there, so I’ll leave that in. I’m done; I can select Save and return to course.

Task 3: Create an Assignment Activity
Now let’s create an Assignment activity where students are asked to download an editable template, complete the activity, and submit it.

I add an Assignment activity and add the title and description. Next, I upload the template file in the Additional files section.

The only setting we were asked to edit was to disable Turnitin, so we scroll down and untick the Enable Turnitin checkbox.

Done! I can now select Save and return to course.

Task 4: Review the Completion conditions settings
Finally, let’s enable Completion tracking and review the Activity completion settings for the two activities we just created. First, let’s go to Settings in the top bar and under Completion tracking let’s enable both Enable completion tracking and Show activity completion conditions. Now that Completion tracking has been enabled at course level, we’ll review the settings for each activity.

Select the three dots and Edit settings. Under Completion conditions, let’s add a requirement.

For the Choice activity, I select Add requirements and tick Make a choice. I can now save my changes. The activity will be marked completed when the students make a choice.

Let’s go and edit the completion conditions of the Assignment activity. Once again, I select Edit settings, and under Completion conditions I select Add requirements and tick Make a submission. I save my changes.

And that’s it! You’ve now set up two simple interactive activities and added completions conditions.
