I would like to deny the allegation against me for this case. I wish to take this opportunity to thank the school management for giving me the chance to respond to the academic misconduct allegations. I have to state that the notification from my tutor pertaining in regards to the above-mentioned cases got me in confused. This was an unexpected case and it is with deep concern that I write this letter hoping that the truth of the matter will come to light. Academic misconduct is an allegation that I take seriously given the potential damage it could cost in my education. I have strived all through my education journey to enhance academic integrity hic is something I would not like to jeopardize at this stage of my educational journey. I would to express that I am willing to cooperate with the investigation process to make sure that justice comes to light. I am well acquainted with the university policy against academic misconduct which is highlighted in the document, These include, “OIA: The Good Practice Framework: Disciplinary Procedures (2018) · UK Quality Code for Higher Education: Assessment (2018) · QAA Guidance: Contracting to Cheat in Higher Education (2022) · QAA Guidance: Plagiarism in Higher Education (2016) · QAA Academic Integrity Charter (2020) ” By following these codes I hope to demonstrate that my case is not that of academic misconduct but rather a confusion due certain elements of the assignments instruction. My tutor mentioned in the comment that the similarity index for my paper exceeded the 25% mark which is the maximum allowable limit. My paper had a similarity index of 41% which exceeds the allowed similarity by 16%. I would like to take this opportunity to defend my innocence and in a sense respond to these allegations by accounting for the exceeded limit which I believe was largely contributed by the instructions on the structure and order of the paper. The assignment required that the laid-out structure be followed. In this response, some of the main elements in the instructions had to be followed. These included the main points of the paper such as the subsections. As a result, most of these guiding elements matched the sample that was used

for the structure. For instance, I noticed that some part of the table of content was also highlighted as I have indicated in the snapshot below. I believe that some of the parts that were highlighted should not have contributed to the final mark of the similarity index as they were meant to act as a guide for my assignment. Moreover, the structure of the paper was specific to the use of the sample which acted as s guide to the structuring of my assignment. Moreover, I also noticed that repetitive portions of the assignments were also highlighted such as the table headings. The table headings do not reflect the data for the sample but acted as a guide to my data analysis. However, this trend can be seen in Tables 1 to 9 as I have indicated in the

excerpt below. The data labels in the table guided me in making individual analyses and as can be seen the data in the table does not match the data in the sample, only the data label matches. In the calculation part, the procedure and the methodology f the calculation also had a significant contribution to the similarity index. I believe that since the assignment was closely related to the one detailed in the sample, the calculation procedure was similarly related. Thus some of the methodologies in calculations including the formulas used were highlighted as they closely matched to the one used in the sample. Moreover,

to attempt the assignment without using these calculation processes and methodologies. As can be seen, from the Turnitin report a large part of the similarity index was due to the sample which accounts for 30% of the overall 115 of the similarity index. While I do reckon that it exceeded the allowable limit, I would like to state that this was not an intentional move as it was all about aligning my assignment with the sample. I strongly contend that the circumstances mentioned herein may have led to the high similarity index. I also strongly agree that it is important for the school administration to carry out investigations into such issues as it helps not only maintain the reputation of the institutions but also helps to maintain the required academic standards. I trust in the investigation process and hope that this issue may also raise awareness of the complex nature of academic misconduct. Thank you for your attention on this matter.
