My experience learning a new skill has been a roller coaster journey, the key skill I have learnt in workplace amongst other professional settings is being able to communicate clearly and effectively. We as human beings listen to respond but I believe that we should listen to understand and that is comprehension. Communication is a key component as we need this to liaise with colleagues to achieve a common goal, speak with family members to understand their wants and needs so we can nurture them. Overall, I think it was really good experience for me in the working place. when I started the job, it was interesting and really exciting. When I started I found it was really confusing and I did not think that I was in the right position or if this was the right option for me. Some of the question I was asking myself where if this role makes me a better person and am I going to achieve my goals. After this I started to work on what I need to do better and started a step-by-step guide on how to overcome the challenges I face. This taught me character and perseverance although it was difficult deep down I knew through these traits I will become successful to create a better environment and quality of life for me and my family, most importantly. I faced many Problems communicating in the working place as it was really hard to communicate with the boss as I was working long hours. It was really hard as I had child care responsibilities, I had to decide to either accept the situation or communicate that I’m unable to commit to this. During my time at work I had to communicate constantly with customers taking their orders and seating them at the restaurant. Occasionally we had customer who were aggressive and rude, on numerous occasions I’ve had to explain to them to be patient during the busier times. Whilst taking orders I’ve had to communicate clearly asking about allergies and taking great care. To conclude, I believe learning how to communicate is one the most important tool one can possess as it will enable one to overcome problems be talking to one another and understanding the root cause. It has taught me how to engage with my peers creating an inclusive atmosphere. How to deal with the general public and manage expectations so that we can prevent certain scenarios. Sebastian Preda
