Welcome to my page dedicated to Tiramisù!

History of Tiramisù

According to the 'Tiramisù Academy' or Accademia del Tiramisù, the origins of this heavenly dessert are to be found in a 'house of pleasure' in 18th century Treviso, Veneto in Northern Italy. Another region, Friuli Venezia Giulia, also claims rights to the origin of Tiramisù, as does Piedmont.

Whether it was invented in the 1960s in the region of Veneto, Italy, at the restaurant "Le Beccherie" in Treviso or in the 17th century in Siena, Tuscany, the name Tiramisù means "pick me up" or "cheer me up" in Italian, surely a reference to the caffeine in the espresso and the sugar in the dessert.

N.B. Nowhere in these original recipes is cream mentioned among Tiramisù ingredients.
