Red Dwarf is a British Sci-Fi sitcom which started in 1988 and is currectly up to series XII (Red Dwarf tending to use roman numerals for its series numbers) with series XIII being filmed to air later in the year. The show centers mainly around Lister, the last of the humans, Rimmer, a hologram of one of Listers former bunkmates, Kryten, a mechanoid servant, and Cat, a creature that evolved from a cat that Lister smuggled aboard. The show was inspired by, and is seen as a parody of, both Star Trek and Bladerunner.
The show is considered a cult classic and generally has quite a low budget each series. Most of the series prior to X made heavy use of practical effects rather than CGI. To save money as well the show tends to be confined to events taking place on the ship rathet than planets.
