The purpose of this portal is to give operational managers a prediction of how many receipts their area is going to receive in a particular day. In turn, this will show the number of staff needed to complete the work, allowing managers to loan staff to other areas, promoting the DVLA’s ethos of collaborative working and multi-skilling of staff talent. This ensures we maximise the potential of the resource available to us, enabling us to meet all our customer service measures and giving our customer the best experience possible by reducing their waiting times on transactions.
Our aim is to supply predictions for every team that gets receipts….but new ideas and new methods take time to implement. For launch we are looking at providing for the Drivers Medical casework section first, but other casework areas and data input sections will follow shortly……look out for communications from the Data Analytics Team soon to get the work started and help DVLA to reach the maximum efficiency level from resources we have available.
DVLA’s Data Analytics Team has trained analysts who use scientific methods to accurately predict receipt volumes. Using specialist programming software they are able to create models (such as neural nets and random forests) which produce results by looking at historic data. These models have been tested and are continuously reviewed to ensure the best possible accuracy for operational managers. Staffing levels are then calculated by taking the predicted receipt volumes and combining them with the official transaction timings, produced by DVLA’s Business Improvement Team, to give an FTE (Full Time Equivalent) staffing volume.
