Employability skills determine the future of one's career, they don't represent just another point you mark on your CV when having an interview for a job, they consist in the total of skills that make you a valid candidate for a certain job and help you develop further in your chosen career path. Looking at the issue from a personal point of view, I can say that attending UWTSD college classes has helped me significantly improve my employability skills offering me the opportunity to apply for positions I wouldn't have in the past. In the following pages, I will describe and anallyze the skills I have developed while studying in this module, redacting a SWOT analysis on the overall capacity I have earned this past months. Without further ado, this is how this module has helped me improve, in essence myself. Note taking has been my best option when faced with a study I had to make, a subject I had to learn. While in this module, I can tell that my note taking ability has improved because I have developed different systems of studying by hand-writing which have been of use when writing such papers or tasks. Practicing daily typing : since working throughout my life, I haven't been faced with much digital work, so, in order to gain experience in the matters of digital typewriting , I have found daily time to write emails or copy segments of a book I liked. Keeping clean notes of the subjects I have been studying, when I found the necessary time, I have implemented the habit of making well structured notes with the important information at the begging, followed by a summary of the lecture. Feynman's technique: during this semester I have familiarized myself with this study method that is based on writing the notes as if I were teaching them to someone oblivious of the information I was giving them. This way, i was actually explaining the concepts to myself putting on the shoes of the lecturer. My note-taking skill has also improved using this studying technique. Finding playful development methods: whilst I was trying to implement all of the above in my student life, one of the things that helped me the most has been finding non-conventional methods of improving my note-taking skill: for example I have been sitting in front of the TV and writing everything on the news, to help me take notes faster. Research is one of the most important parts of composing a study-case, project or essay. In order to share valid information, research needs to be one of your main focuses because basing a paper on invalid, false information is unprofessional, this is why I have also focused on improving my research/finding information skills by doing the following: Using a 6-step method that consists of : gathering background information and trying to get a “sense” of what the given topic is about, identifying concepts and terminology central to the topic (using reference sources such as dictionaries, glossaries, encyclopedies, and Internet sources) Selecting information based on its relevance in the study-field based on my findings in step 1, I identify sources that will provide me with the kind of information I need Determining my search strategy by brainstorming for synonyms, keywords, and terminology I can use as search terms for my topic , mapping out different search strategies: searching for authors who are experts in the field, trying subject searches and keyword searches, trying general and subject specific databases Executing the research after completing all the steps above Evaluating the information I gather by investigating author’s credentials, and using current sources Writing and revising the task I was staying positive even when I am not successful in doing the task .In all research there is a need to understand that the success of the research, and the extent to which it will be accepted or not, will relate to the degree to which it is coherent and contains within it a strong argument that is supported by data, whether this be quantitative or qualitative. This means that the researcher has to understand the issue that he or she wishes to address in his or hers research and that this needs to emerge from the way the research is conducted. There is whole range of ways in which a person’s creative processes can be stimulated so that resulting ideas can be captured and analyzed, but I believe that a person’s attitude towards preparing and doing research is crucial. That's why even when I feel unmotivated I try putting in the amount of effort I am capable of provinding for my research. Good time management and planning skills are vital for achieving grades, degrees. This is why I have been implementing all the life-suitable skills presented in the lectures in my day-to-day life, using the following methods and strategies: To-do lists: daily, weekly or monthly to do lists are very useful for my lifestyle, they keep track of all my tasks and deadlines, keeping my life organized. Writing weekly plans: these include daily to-do lists but are more complex and take of course more time. A weekly plan is made by writing down, using the note-taking skill, all the study appointments, social appointments and deadlines. It adds also interest in personal matters, writing down everything gives an overview of the week contributing to the productivity of the week, this applies also to the monthly plans. Colour-coordinating notes and course materials: having physical classes or online classes generates a large amount of information, papers, and books. I have been using different colours to determine de subject of the materials and importance using maps and post-it cards. App-using: planning and productivity apps are very useful, I have found in the past few months. I have been using Notion, a program which allows me to keep track of all the tasks I have been assigned at University but also the habits I want to add to my daily routines. Reshaping the curve of forgetting: it describes how we retain information over time. From the moment I am faced with new information to the moment I find myself hardly remembering concepts, i found useful re-organizing my revision tactic. I review the material within 24 hours of the lecture or course, a week later a reactivate the information in brain by casually reading the concepts I have been taught, and finally, before the exams or assignments I write the information structured in an easy way, using Feynman's technique. STRENGHTS overall development of myself improvement of my second-language speaking and writing skills (in English) engaging in course related activities gaining experience in working in a variety of digital programs gaining the abillity to apply basic and underlying concepts and principles I have learned initiative to reinvent my career and to take responsibility for my still-developing skills and weak-points WEAKNESSES having the inability to fully express my ideas in English encountering difficulties in subjects I haven't studied before having problems when presenting materials due to not being as outgoing in front of a crowd OPPORTUNITIES Improving my English Vocabulary Improving my digital skills Overcoming my public-speaking block Assimilating new and useful information Over-all positive improvement THREATS encountering family-related issues that could take from the time I have allocated to study-sessions facing burnout and lack of motivation.
