Races
Now that you're consistently training, the next step is to get yourself entered into a race so that you can test yourself against other runners!
There are 4 main race types which runners typically choose to enter. Increasing in distance, these races are:
- 5k Park Run - 5 kilometres/5.1 miles
- 10k - 10 kilometres/6.2 miles
- Half-marathon - 21.1 kilometres/13.1 miles
- Marathon - 42.2 kilometres/26.2 miles
Below I have outlined some "Dos and Don'ts" to prepare you for race day!
DO
- Prepare your running gear the night before
- Get a good night's sleep
- Eat the same pre-run meals that your body is used to
- Run your own race - don't compare yourself to other runner's who could be more experienced than you!
- Enjoy yourself - and remember to smile for the cameras!
DON'T
- Leave everything until race day
- Trial new running gear (esepecially shoes!) or foods
- Drink too much water
- Arrive late
- Give up - This is what you've trained for!
Good luck!
Now you're all prepared to get out there and put yourself to the test!
