History of BMW

BMW History

BMW, short for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, was founded in Germany in 1916. The company originally manufactured aircraft engines during the First World War. After the war, BMW expanded into motorcycles before producing its first automobiles.

During the 1930s, BMW became known for building stylish sports cars and luxury vehicles. One of its most famous early models was the BMW 328 Roadster, which achieved major success in international motorsport.

Following World War II, BMW rebuilt its business and introduced several successful models. In the 1960s, the "New Class" saloons helped establish BMW as a manufacturer of premium, driver-focused vehicles.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, BMW launched several iconic generations, including the E30, E36 and E39. These models became famous for their rear-wheel-drive handling, balanced chassis and reliable inline-six engines.

The BMW E46, produced between 1998 and 2006, is widely regarded as one of the greatest BMW models ever built. Its timeless design, excellent driving dynamics and legendary M3 version continue to make it a favourite among enthusiasts around the world.

Today BMW is one of the world's leading premium automobile manufacturers, producing luxury cars, high-performance M models, electric vehicles and motorcycles while continuing its tradition of engineering excellence.
