So let’s get started!

Task 1: Add content to the Module information tile

In the first task we need to add some content to the Useful resources subsection that we created in the previous challenge. Let’s turn Edit mode on and scroll to find the subsection. I then select the arrow to expand it.

We need to add a copy of the Module handbook, which I have already downloaded and it’s in my files here ready to go. I select Add an activity or resource. In the list, I find the File resource and select Add.

In the Name field, I type Module handbook. Then I paste the description and tick the Display description on course page box. Finally, I drag and drop the file and select Save and return to course. All done!

Next, I have to create a Page where we can add the Module FAQs. Once again, I select Add an activity or resource and choose Page from the list.

In the Name field, I type Module FAQs, and then I paste my text in the Page content. I’ll apply a bit of formatting now: I want to make the questions bold, so I highlight the text and select the bold icon to apply the formatting. I’m all done here, I can select Save and return to course.

We can now move to the next task!

Task 2: Set up Week 1 tile

To rename the tile, I select the pencil icon to the right of the title and type the new name Week 1: Time management. To save the change, I press Enter. I can now add a suitable picture: I select the icon to the left of the title and choose Upload new photo. I choose my file and select Save changes. All done!

Task 3: Add slides to Week 1 tile

We now need to add a copy of Week 1 slides. We have two files, a PowerPoint and a PDF.

First let’s add a Text and media area: I go to Week 1 tile, select the plus sign, choose Activity or resource and then Text and media area. I add the title Week 1 slides in the Title in course index field, paste my text and format Week 1 slides as a Heading 3. Then I select Save and return to course.

Now I’m ready to add my folder – we are using the Folder resource here because it keeps both the PowerPoint and PDF versions together and saves space on the page. In the Name field, I type Download Week 1 slides, and add the description. Then I drag and drop my files in the file area and select Save and return to course. All done!

Task 4: Add instructions for the pre-seminar task to the Week 1 tile

We now need to add some instructions for the pre-seminar activity. Let’s add a Text and media area. As usual, I’ll add a name for the course index and then paste my text and format the heading. I’ll also format the three questions as a list.

Next, I need to add the URL resource with the link to the video. I select the plus sign, choose Activity or resource and then find URL in the list. I can now put a name and paste my link in the External URL field. Since I already gave some context in the instructions, I’m going to leave the Description field empty. Then I expand the Appearance section and check that the link is set to open in a new window. All good! I can now select Save and return to course.

Task 5: Make Week 1 tile available

One very quick task before we finish: as we have finished working on Week 1 tile, we can now unhide it. I select the three dots to the right of the tile title and select Show.

Let’s take a look – we’ve got the slides, the pre-seminar task, and the link to the video, all clearly laid out.

I’ll switch my role to Student to check how the page looks from a student perspective. Hmm, I still can’t view the content I just added. I’ll return to my normal role and check what the problem is.

I can see that although the tile itself is visible, the individual items inside it are still set to Hidden from students. I’ll turn Edit mode back on and unhide each item. Now, I’ll switch to Student view again to check. Perfect, everything is now visible!

And that’s it, the second Moodle challenge completed!
