Darn 1 – Animal Partners’ (tt 144-145) yn y llyfr ‘Enjoy Reading!’ a olygwyd gan R. E. Rogerson a C.M. Smith R Eccles 1502588 CYPW4010 Aseiniad 1 In Britain it is a common sight to see starlings perched on the backs of sheep and cattle as they graze in the fields. If you were to watch these birds for a time you would see them busily digging about with their beaks on the animals’ backs, and you might wonder what they were doing. The answer is that the starlings are eating insects and grubs which they remove from the animals’ hides. Ym Mrydain rydach chi’n gallu gweld drudwyod yn aml yn sefyll ar y cefnau gwartheg a defaid wrth iddyn nhw bori yn y caeau. Pe tasech chi’n gwylio’r adar yna am gyfnod, fasech chi’n eu gweld wrth iddyn nhw grafu gyda eu pigiau ar gefnau yr anifeiliadau a fasech chi’n holi eich hun be oedden nhw’n gwneud. Yr ateb ydi fod y drudwyod yn bwyta pryfed a chynrhon y mae nhw’n tynnu oddi wrth groen yr anifeiliaid. With their beaks the birds separate the strands of wool on a sheep’s back, and pick up and eat the insects and ticks which they find there. From the backs of cattle they remove grubs which cause pain and disease. The birds enjoy these grubs. Thus the animals provide the birds with food, while in return the birds rid the animals of harmful pests. Gyda eu pigiau mae’r adar yn gwahanu y ceinciau gwlân ar gefn dafad, ac ymafael a bwyta y pryfed a throgod y maen nhw’n eu darganfod yna. O’r cefnau gwartheg maen nhw’n tynnu cynrhon sy’n achosi poen ac afiechyd. Mae’r adar yn mwynhau’r cynrhon yma. Felly, mae’r anifeiliaid yn darparu bwyd i’r adar tra mae’r adar yn gwaredu plâu niweidiol yn ôl. In Africa there are some interesting partnerships to be found between animals and birds. A crocodile may be basking in the sunshine near water, with his jaws wide open. In hops its partner, the plover that acts as the reptile’s toothbrush, and at once starts to pick and eat any fragments of meat which are sticking to the crocodile’s teeth. After this it removes some worms, called leeches, from the crocodile’s tongue. The crocodile seems to know that this bird is a friend, for he never harms the plover. Yn Affrica mae’na rai bartneriathau diddorol yn cael eu gweld rhwng anifeiliaid ag adar. Gall grocodeil dorheulo yn yr heulwen yn ymyl dŵr, gyda ei enau yn agored yn llwyr. I mewn yr hercia ei bartner, y cornicyll, ac yn ymddwyn fel brws dannedd y grocodeil, ac ar unwaith mae’n dechrau ymafael a bwyta bribys cig sy wedi cael eu clymu yn nannedd y crocodeil. Ar ôl hyn mae o’n tynnu pryfyn, o’r enw gelenod, oddi wrth dafod y crocodeil. Ymddengys bod y crocodeil yn gwybod bod yr aderyn hwn yn gyfaill am nad ydy’n niweidio’r cornicyll byth.
