Academic writing can take the form of a plethora of definitions, as the middle ground, we can define academic writing to be the medium through which we learn both by being a writer and reader. “Academic writing is the writing done for academic purposes” (Fang 2021). It is unique to other types of writing, it tends to be free of the writer's thoughts and feelings, it provides a range of perspectives and enables the reader to delve deeper on topics which may be alien to them. It is a formal and objective style of writing, characterised by clarity, precision and logic (Admin 2020). Academic writing is essential to the modern world for several reasons. It conveys a writer's analytical thinking, professionalism, research skills and work ethic (Nixon 2018). It allows a writer to be able to share their research with another person or group. It enables them to research their own interests on a deeper level, setting the standard for professional and ethical conduct within academic and research communities, ensuring the integrity of scholarly work. It is imperative that academic writing is elaborative, logically sequenced and reasoned to develop a skill which can be utilised to educate the world(Fang 2021). Academic writing requires adherence to strict ethical guidelines, including the proper use of citations and references to avoid plagiarism, and the accurate reporting of research findings. These ethical standards are critical for maintaining the integrity of scholarly work and ensuring that research is conducted with the highest degree of professionalism and accountability. The ability to write clearly, coherently, and persuasively is highly valued in many professions, including law, journalism, business, and government. Students who develop strong academic writing skills are better equipped to succeed in their academic and professional endeavours, as they can communicate their ideas effectively and convincingly (Nixon 2018).
