Task 3: Report Introduction In this report, the clear awareness of the skills and abilities will be provided effectively in relation to the selection of the job role. The selected job role that has been considered in this case is the Nursing job. The studies from the NHS have revealed that there has been a huge gap and vacancy in the position of the nurses across the UK. The vacancies of nurses across the UK have been more than 40,000. Moreover, there have been several cases where the elderly do not get the necessary care and treatment due to the lack of availability of the nurses, across the UK. Therefore, the selected job role is highly needed and effective in the present context therefore, in this report, it would be seen how far different skills and abilities will be required to become a nurse. Roles and Responsibilities of a Nurse The specific role within the health and social care sector that has been chosen for this particular study is Nurse. A nurse is someone who provides care and support to the patients. A nurse ensures that they monitor the vital signs and medication process that develop the individualised care plans. The role of a nurse is varied and requires collaboration with the doctors as well (Vatn and Dahl, 2022). It becomes the duty of the nurses to communicate with the patient's family and provide them with important and relevant detail that guarantees safety and comfort. The roles and responsibilities of the nurse can be elaborated broadly. Patient monitoring and rendering care The most important and primary responsibility of a nurse includes taking good care of the patients. The primary role of a nurse is to make sure that the patient is in a comfortable situation and they do not get panicked during the process of the treatment. The nurse needs to make sure that the patients take the required medicines, meals and water intakes daily as per the prescribed intervals. However, in delivering the care to the patients, nurses would have to make sure that they are aware of the medical histories of the patients. It becomes the primary role of the nurses to make sure that the vital signs of the patients are being monitored and taken records of. The doctors generally prescribe the medicines based on these records and monitoring data only. Therefore, the role of the nurse is extremely vital and significant. No errors or misinformation can be carried by the nurse, which might lead to fatal results. Coordination with the Patient’s family Another very important role of a nurse is to carry out coordination with the patient’s family. During the time of extreme crisis, there is a high tendency of the family members to panic and create chaos within the healthcare premises. It becomes the responsibility of the nurse to ensure that proper information are being fed to the patient’s family. The nurses should coordinate and incorporate with family members of the patients. This requires extremely efficient communication skills. Information should be passed on to the families of the patients so that they do not panic yet get the most accurate and real time condition of the patient. The communication is one of the vital skill for the role pursuant of a nurse Care planning and Documentation Another very significant skill for the nurse includes care planning and coordination. It becomes the responsibility of a nurse to coordinate with the doctors and curate care plans for the patients, as well. It falls within the roles and responsibilities of a nurse to make care plan schedules and routines for the patients in collaboration with the doctors (Fang et al., 2025). The care plans need to be accurate and in alliance with the need for the patient’s health condition. Therefore it happens that coordination is a severely significant skill for the nurses. Moreover, the nurses are also expected to carry out the documentation process, as well. Maintaining accurate electronic health records (EHR) is a non-negotiable skill for the job role of the nurses (Alkhateeb et al., 2024). It is the duty of the nurses to make a track of the medication records, doses and changes in prescription, as well. Skills needed to perform the role of a Nurse and their Importance In the above-mentioned discussion, the detailed analysis of the duties and responsibilities of the nurses have been revealed. However, in order to complete and achieve these responsibilities, certain specific skills are extremely required. However, three most important skills that are required by the nurses include the following: ● Problem solving ● Coordination ● Teamwork These three skills are extremely significant and essential for the role of a nurse. The importance of these skills can be highlighted in this aspect, as well. The importance of these skills will be highlighted in respect to examples, as well. ● Problem solving: Problem solving is an important skill that is extremely essential for the role of a nurse. Problem solving is an important skill because a nurse would be required to solve any problems that are related to the needs of patients (Perry et al., 2024). In difficult times, doctors might not be present at all times. Therefore, during the critical or difficult times, it bears upon the shoulders and responsibility of the nurse to take important decisions that leave high stakes on the lives of the patients, as well. Therefore, it is highly important for the nurses to take the right decisions at the right time to save the lives of the patients. This can be proven from real life examples of the NHS. The case study of the NHS reveals that a nurse suspects a feeding tube has been misplaced in the trachea despite colleagues pointing out a lack of change in oxygen saturation. The nurse trusts their clinical judgment and advocates for a re-check, preventing potential aspiration (Nibbelink and Brewer, 2018). ● Coordination: Another significant skill that includes the responsibility of a nurse is coordination. Coordination is of extreme importance for a nurse. A nurse would have to continuously coordinate with the doctors and medical representatives to let the information flow down seamless (Jarab et al., 2024). For instance, the Senior Community Nurse Coordinator render supports the "Hospital and Home" model, managing patients with chronic diseases to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions (NHS.UK, 2025) ● Teamwork: Another important skill that is required for a nurse is teamwork. The skill of team work is important because teamwork enhances the possibility and chances of coordination, as well. Nurses always have to work in coordination with the team members such as health staff and doctors. Therefore, team work is a non suitable factor in the nursing job. In the NHS, the nurses would have to perform "team huddles" to align priorities. Strategies to Improve the Skills and its Effectiveness In the previous selection, the skills and the responsibilities of a nurse have been highlighted. The previous section revealed the skills that are required to fulfil the responsibilities of a nurse. In this section, certain strategies will be provided to improve the necessary skills that have been highlighted in the previous section. The strategies will be provided along with its effectiveness. Skills Strategy Effective Outcomes Teamwork Simulation Training Ensures improved teamwork and coordination, as well Coordination Evidence based practice and non job training Get hands on real life experiences and instances Problem solving Mentorship programmes Get one on one mentorship from peers and professionals. Conclusion In conclusion, it could be stated this report is a portfolio of developmental skills for nurses. The report works as an effective portfolio that would highlight different strategies that will be used to improve the overall skills and abilities of a nurse in the working condition. Through this report, the understanding of the skills and the required capabilities will be studied effectively with the help of the relevant data and information. The importance of the skills will also be evaluated in this report for a better understanding.
