It is generally considered that children’s play is very important in today’s society. To begin with, play is learned from a very young age as it is natural for children to interact and imitate actions from the people in their life such as parents and siblings. Play is a spontaneous decision which is “directed by the children themselves and not planned or led by adults” (Herrington, Brussoni 2015 page 447). In addition to this, play is especially important in children’s learning as they are pre-programmed and motivated to play. Children are “gaining mastery and control of their bodies” (Early Years Matters 2018) when realising that they are capable of crawling, walking, sitting, climbing, pushing and so on.
