Kayleigh Hickling 2524181 This reflection evaluates my recent research and presentation task, focusing on my preparation, performance, and areas for development. I began my research by exploring online sources, using the search term *“counselling in a school sector.”* This led me to the GOV.UK website, which became my primary reference due to its credibility and clarity regarding qualifications and expectations for counselling roles within education. I supplemented this with information from EHP.org, allowing me to cross‑reference details and build a more comprehensive understanding of the role. Despite feeling confident in the quality of my research, my presentation did not reflect the depth of my preparation. I experienced significant anxiety when speaking in front of adults, which differs from my usual comfort when addressing children. As a result, I delivered the presentation too quickly and omitted key points that I had intended to discuss. Although my notes were well‑structured, my nerves prevented me from using them effectively. Time management also posed a challenge. Balancing full‑time work with the responsibilities of being a single parent limited the time I could dedicate to practising my delivery. This contributed to my lack of confidence during the presentation. From this experience, I have identified several actions for improvement. I need to allocate more time for rehearsal and practise presenting aloud, ideally in front of others, to build confidence. Memorising key points rather than relying heavily on notes may also support a more natural delivery. Additionally, developing strategies to manage anxiety—such as controlled breathing and pacing—would help me present more clearly and calmly. Moving forward, I plan to extend my research by identifying five additional sources that explore three key counselling skills and three strategies to develop them. This will support my long‑term goal of progressing into a therapeutic role within a SEND setting.
