Reflect on a situation you have been in where there was a miscommunication. What happened? What was the effect of the miscommunication? What have you learned? I am working as a part-time crew in Mcdonalds and I can’t avoid situations like taking a customer’s order and giving them wrong food. I was once asked to take an order from a customer through the till. It was a busy moment for the crew and I can feel the pressure from managers observing and customers looking directly in front of us. I asked the customer his order and he told me he wanted a cheeseburger with no cheese and with extra ketchup and mayo. As I was quickly typing the order, I accidentally put no ketchup and mayo with extra cheese. At that time, I was confident and moved on to the next customer. The customer took his order and went to find a table. After 10 minutes, he came back with rage and anger. He was lactose intolerant and couldn't eat cheese. He was shouting at me and demanded a refund. The other customers are watching him scream at me and I feel ashamed of what I have done. I apologized to the customer and asked my manager to give him a refund. My manager called me to his office and told me to be careful the next time I use the till. It was a huge lesson for me to make sure I double check customized orders to avoid this kind of situation again. In the following days after that, I always make sure I type in the correct order by confirming the correct order from the customer. When I get confused on the order, I usually ask help from my managers to help and guide me throughout. From this miscommunication, I have learned to listen carefully to what the customer is saying and to ask for confirmation whether I got the order right. Also, I learned to focus and not be distracted by the noise around me.
