Name- Md Abdul Aziz Student number-1705855 ESSAY: In this essay, we will discuss the regulation of the role of Nurses within the United Kingdom. A nurse is an honorable profession, a person associated with this job is responsible for diagnoses of diseases and treatment of injuries (Maclean, 1974). To qualify for a nursing profession in the United Kingdom, a Nursing Diploma from a Medical or Health Care Institute is required (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). Additionally, the applicants must have 5 GCSEs having a grade equal to or above 4/C (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). Also, two or three A-Levels are required by the Institutes/Hospitals in the UK to qualify as a nurse (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). As every profession requires a license or registration number likewise nursing registration is essential as regulation assures ethical and professional competence of nurses to safeguard the society. The reason why nurses need to be registered with NMC is that it sets and reviews standards for their education, training, conduct, and performance of nurses working in the UK (Williams, 2008). Registration improves the value, confidence, and respect of patients and the dignity and identity of nurses. To become a registered nurse in the UK candidates have to meet eligibility and qualification requirements. Candidates will need to show that they meet the health, character, and English language requirements as part of their application (Williams, 2008). Revalidation is a method by which you will upgrade you your license or registration number. The major reason due to which revalidation of nurses is very important is the fact that it pushes the nurses to maintain their fitness during their duty to practice within their scope of practice, and stay professional in their work. Re-validation of the medical nurses’ management system was introduced by GMC in December 2012 in the United Kingdom (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). The reassurance is based on information from an annual nurse review supported by an information portfolio. As revalidation is important then there come responsibilities of Nurses. In addition to having complete medical knowledge regarding taking care of the patients, they also need to be able to pass on their findings to a patient who does not have the same knowledge. As a Nurse, their hard and responsible job is to focus on the treatment and health of their patient. Nurses should evaluate the patient's access signals that provide patient follow-up care. It is very important for nurses to be punctual and timely in all of their duties, because their punctuality and honesty in their work directly impacts the care of the patient. Patients get proper attention when nurses are punctual in their duties, as a result, they heal faster. They should be punctual because their punctuality has a significant impact on patients' health (Martin, 2010). Nurses should be on time also if not there should be an alternative of one Nurse to take care of their patients in the hospital. The impact of punctuality is Nurses should exhibit good behavior towards patients and patients also do the same with Nurses (General Medical Council. Education Committee, 1980). In addition to the importance of the Nurse to everyone known, but nurses also play a major role as the right hand of the doctors. Sometimes nurses do a job just like Doctors do by seeking information from experience and practicing. The relationship between nurses and patients is also very important, they should work very well in their work. They have to be confident when talking to patients and work well (Williams, 2008). The professions including Nursing, which are risky should not take a complexity lightly interlinked with the healthcare services. Properly written and up-to-date policies and procedures reduce practice variability which may result in substandard care. The nursing system is challenging and requires the coordinator of nurse to have some time to visit but the surgeon is always called, he must do eight hours of normal working day (Martin, 2010). While working as a Nurse, they need to complete accommodation that requires many hours including weekend activities and regular call times. Even after being certified from medical college, nurses should have developed soft skills or should learn from their experience the skills to succeed in their profession (General Medical Council. Education Committee, 1980). Additionally, Nurses need to be honest about their field and their patient, in this field most nurses do not talk about earning their money (Martin, 2010). Like every profession nursing profession also have a code of practices. Code of practices has importance so the Nurses treat the patients with some constraints. In the UK, Nurses have a responsibility to include their actions and the actions of those staff who may be working under them. The codes of conduct are usually made by the institute itself (GMC, 1981). The General Medical Council (GMC) is an independent organization responsible for regulating nurses in the UK. The council's legal purpose is to protect, promote, and maintain the safety and health of the people by ensuring that nurses meet their standard of medical excellence (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). They provide adequate follow-up to the patient within the allotted time to provide the medical follow-up required by the patient's state of health. They need high-quality verbal communication skills to explain patient diagnoses to their team partners, nurses, and other staff, and the patient’s family. They should be the best teachers to pass on their instructions, because their proper communication can make it easier for the patient to understand, and if the patient would be clear about what he needs to do / eat / drink in order to be healthy, he will heal faster (Burgess, 2006). Welsh Legislation is the one in the United Kingdom that regulates the nurses through multiples acts including Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Act 2016. Health Boards now have a legal duty to regard the importance of ensuring appropriate levels of nurse staffing in all settings (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). Health Boards will have a duty to report on compliance with staffing requirements and take action if failings occur (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). Along with the Welsh Legislation, there are also other acts under the National Legislation of UK regarding the nurses. According to the Role and Medical Act 1983, the Nurse's role is to protect patients and improve health education and practices throughout the UK. As part of the role of the registered nurses, Nurses are eligible to work in the UK (Burgess, 2006). They should set a standard to follow in all their activities (Burgess, 2006), sometimes they have to take risky steps to maintain patient safety (Burgess, 2006). They are responsible for the medical education, registration, and certification of nurses and for guiding nurses on matters of professional ethics, performance, and ethics. Nurses' improvement should be the key to caring for high-quality patients and healthy communities. The Nurse Framework describes the skills required by school counseling to direct their work and Professional and enhance their careers (Martin, 2010). They have the ability to effectively and efficiently meet the health care needs of their clients. They need to create an effective leader to handle the patient's affairs in the UK Nurses must set the professional standards, knowledge, skills, and ethics required of them (Nightingale & Maureen Shawn Kennedy, 2020). The nurses report to the doctors and physicians while working in the hospital during their duties. For any of their crime regarding their profession, they may be held accountable to Criminal and Civil Courts, Regulatory bodies in terms of performance and patient care, Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) (GMC, 1981). Nurses are accountable for their duties, if they meet the requirements of the law, as all Employees are accountable to their employer for compliance with their employment contract. They are also responsible for accounting to regulatory bodies in terms of patient performance and care. They should inform the person working at the top when they cannot do well with proper reason and proof (General Medical Council. Education Committee, 1980). Nursing is a noble profession, without a nurse, no hospital can function properly. With the training of nurses and responsibilities, nurses play an important role in making the organization a better place for patients (Burgess, 2006). The nursing profession has seen tremendous improvements throughout the year even though it can be improved by giving them all the space they need, by cooperating fully, and by showing them respect (Martin, 2010).
