About Ubuntu Linux
"Ubuntu" is an ancient African word, that means "humanity to others". Ubuntu is a Open source Linux distribution based on Debian Linux. This is one of the recommended distos for beginners to GNU/Linus as it offers a complete Linux desktop operating system with both professional and community support, and is freely available with no cost to yourself! Ubuntus manifesto is even: "That software should be available free of charge, the software tools should be usable by people in their own local language and despite any disabilities, and that people should have the freedom to customise and alter their software in whatever way they see fit". Ubuntu is good for the beginner as it allows users to install programmes through the software centre without having to touch a terminal.
Ubuntu is officially released in 3 editions Desktop, Servber and Core(for Internet of things). Ubuntu is released every 6 months with long term support (LTS) releases every 2 years. The latest release is 19.04 .
Ubuntu is developed by Canonical a UK based privately owned computer software company funded and founded by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth and also maintained by the community. Canonical provides security update and support for each Ubuntu release until they reach their end of life.
