by Vasile-Gabriel Anton.

My 5-Point Anti-Procrastination Plan
1. Break assignments into smaller tasks - I will divide larger assignments into sections so they feel easier to manage.
2. Set personal deadlines - I will aim to finish work a few days before the actual deadline instead of leaving everything until the last minute.
3. Remove distractions- I will put my phone away and avoid social media when I am studying.
4. Use short study sessions - I will study for around 30–45 minutes at a time and take short breaks to stay focused.
5. Start with the easiest task -If I am struggling to get started, I will begin with a simple part of the assignment to build momentum and avoid putting it off.

by Cristina Ghepes.

My 5 Anti-Procrastination Actions

Break big assignments into smaller tasks so they feel easier to manage.

Make a study timetable and choose specific times for studying each day.

Put my phone away and turn off social media notifications while I study.

Start with just 10–15 minutes when I feel like avoiding a task. Once I start, I can usually continue.

Set small deadlines for myself before the real deadline, so I have enough time to finish my work without stress.

by Cristina Ghepes.

Activity 2: Tools for Referencing

1. Book

Error: The book title should use sentence case, not capital letters for every main word.

Correct APA reference:

Smith, J. (2022). Understanding business management. Sage Publications.

2. Journal article

Errors:

Use & between two authors.

The article title should be in sentence case.

There should be no space between the volume and issue.

The journal title and volume are italicised.

Correct APA reference:

Jones, R., & Davies, S. (2021). Leadership in modern organisations. Journal of Business Studies, 15(2), 45–61.

3. Webpage

Errors:

The date should come after the author.

The webpage title should be in sentence case and italicised.

The correct webpage URL should be used, rather than just the website homepage.

Correct APA reference:

Welsh Government. (2024). Wellbeing of future generations. https://www.gov.wales

4. Book with two authors

Errors:

The year should come immediately after the authors.

Use & between two authors.

The book title should be italicised.

The title should be in sentence case.

Correct APA reference:

Thomas, P., & Evans, L. (2020). Managing people in organisations. Pearson.

5. Journal article with DOI

Error: The DOI should be presented as a URL, not as “DOI:”.

Correct APA reference:

Williams, A. (2023). Employee motivation in the modern workplace. Management Review, 12(4), 115–130. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx

Explanation of two corrections

Reference 2: APA uses an ampersand (&) between two authors in a reference list. The article title is also written in sentence case. The journal title and volume number are italicised.

Reference 5: In APA , a DOI is written as a URL beginning with https://doi.org/. We do not write “DOI:” before it.

Challenge

Reference-list entry:

Equality Act 2010, c. 15. (2010). https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/contents

Parenthetical citation:

(Equality Act 2010, 2010)

Narrative citation:

The Equality Act 2010 (2010) provides legal protection against discrimination.

Reflection:

Accurate referencing is important because it shows where information has come from and gives credit to the original author. It also helps avoid plagiarism and makes academic work more trustworthy. Referencing allows other people to find and check the sources used. One aspect of APA referencing that I will need to check carefully is the correct format of authors, dates, titles, and DOI or website links. I will also need to make sure that my in-text citations match my reference list.

Activity 3: Create a Reference List

1. Journal article

Capstick, S., Norris, P., Sopoaga, F., & Tobata, W. (2009). Relationships between health and culture in Polynesia – A review. Social Science & Medicine, 68, 1341–1348. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.socscimed.2009.01.002

2. Book

Metge, J., & Kinloch, P. (1984). Talking past each other: Problems of cross-cultural communication. Victoria University Press.

3. Webpage

New Zealand Ministry of Health. (2013, June 20). Annual report on drinking-water quality 2011–2012. https://www.health.govt.nz/publication/annual-report-drinking-water-quality-2011-2012
