by Chibuzor Nnadi.

I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate through trauma and find their way to recovery. My studies in safeguarding, communication, health inequalities, and person-centred care have really fueled this passion. I plan to keep honing my clinical skills, deepening my evidence-based knowledge, and gaining valuable professional experience through additional training and placements.

Self-determination in healthcare

by Chibuzor Nnadi.

Self-determination is about a person's ability to take charge of their actions and shape their own outcomes by setting and chasing after goals that truly matter to them. You can see this in everyday life—

like a child who picks up toys just for the fun of it, someone who hits the gym because they care about their health,

A person who decides to quit smoking to ensure a healthier future for their family, or an artist creating for the sheer joy it brings.

This idea is rooted in a solid psychological framework that highlights three key needs—autonomy, competence, and relatedness—that are crucial for boosting motivation, engagement, and overall well-being.

Autonomy in healthcare

by Chibuzor Nnadi.

Autonomy in healthcare refers to the ethical and legal right of a capable patient to make informed, voluntary choices about their medical care, including the right to refuse treatment. This encompasses decisions like what to wear, what to eat or drink, and how to spend their time in a residential home. It’s all about involving individuals in their own healthcare planning, assessment, and management. This can be achieved through methods like shared decision-making, advanced planning, supported self-management, and person-centered recovery approaches to care.
