The major differences between internal and external stakeholders:

In terms of location and relationship, the internal stakeholders operate inside the organisation whereas the external stakeholders relate from outside the organisation.

In the aspect of control and influence, the internal stakeholders have direct control or influence over the operations whereas the external stakeholders indirectly influences the business through means like market, regulations or public opinion.

The internal stakeholders focus their interest on job security, wages, career growth, organizational success whereas the external stakeholders are more interested in product quality, service delivery, ethical practices, compliance.

As regards access to information regarding the business, the internal stakeholders are well disposed to internal information and participate in decision-making whereas the external stakeholders may have to rely on reports, communication, and public information.

In terms of dependency, the organization depends on the internal stakeholders for performance whereas the organization depends on the external stakeholders for support, reputation, or resources.

Communication frequency to the internal stakeholders is direct and regular whereas to the external stakeholders, it is periodic, formal, or as needed.
