Activity 1 - Your initial ideas and reasons for choosing a research topic

Post your initial areas of interest to this discussion
here and explain why you have chosen this topic (By completing activities 1 & 2 below). Then over the week
your tutor will then help you to refine these ideas by discussing them with you
in the forum.

We open this up for everyone so that topic discussion can be
a group activity and all can benefit from the replies given. Also when people
know what you are interested in they might identify resources that may be
of interest to others.

There are a multitude of reasons why people choose a topic
but some of the more common ones are:

To
develop an expertise in an area that supports your current professional
     role
To
     change employment direction
To
support the prospect of a role change in your current employment
For
     personal interest
You
enjoyed a particular module on the course and want to explore an aspect
     you came across further

If you need a little inspiration then read 'How to
pick a masters Thesis Topic' by Peter Campbell.

If you are really unsure then try think back to the module
that you enjoyed the most, mainly because it raised many questions for
you. Perhaps when you were writing your assessment there was an area
beyond the assessment that you wish you could have pursued more.

by Ben Parker.

My chosen topic is “Investigating the Strategic Consequences of COVID-19 on UK Construction Firms Through a Mixed Methods Lens.” I selected this area because the pandemic significantly affected how construction companies operated and adapted strategically. This is particularly relevant to my current role at Brickability PLC, where I’ve seen these challenges and responses first-hand. The topic will help me develop expertise in organisational resilience and strategic planning while building on my personal interest in how external crises shape business strategy.

by Jess Morgan.

The topic for my dissertation will be:

Having ADHD and being successful in a corporate environment

Working Title - Perceptions and Challenges of ADHD Leaders in Corporate Environments: Understanding Differences and Strategies for Inclusion

As a person diagnosed with a specific learning difficulty (ADHD) and being in a leadership role, and having seemingly had a great career, I want to explore more about the challenges and differences of ADHD individuals who work in corporate environments. I want to explore reasonable adjustments and how organisations support inclusion and whether 'inclusive' environments have an impact on individuals.

I want to explore the challenges faced, and how these differ from the experiences of neurotypical individuals, exploring the impact of early and late diagnosis on career pathways.

Corporate environments often prioritise consistency, attention to detail, and executive functioning — areas where ADHD traits may diverge from expectations. Despite this, ADHD leaders may bring strengths such as creativity, rapid problem-solving, and resilience. I want to aim to explore:

How ADHD leaders are perceived by peers and teams

The specific challenges they face in corporate leadership roles

Practical strategies and organisational changes that can support their success

I am interested in exploring my own experience alongside that of others to compare the impact on our working lives and how that can be shaped differently.

by Tomas Sheehan.

My dissertation idea examines the strategies that drove the successful post-pandemic financial recovery of leading European airlines, and the role of ancillary revenue in the bounce back. Essentially, how has ancillary revenue driven recovery and growth in premium European airlines (Virgin Atlantic, BA, Lufthansa etc) post-pandemic. I currently work as a supervisor for an airline. Revenue management is an area I am keen to move in to as my career progresses.
