What you plan to accomplish?

I want to widen my knowladge on how actresses have opened up about their mental health and why they feel it was important to open up about it.

Why you want to do it?

I want to do it for myself / younger self but also for future aspiring actresses. and to give myself more of an insight to how others have developed.

How you are going to do it?

I will be looking into the history of actresses mental health, contacting actresses to get their opinion as well as theatre companies. But also using today's actresses to see how far we have come within the industry, to inspire myself and others. I want this to be relatable but informative using sources from past and present.

I want to know:

Why were women possibly turned away in the early acting stages?

Why do today's actresses feel it's so important to open up?

How have they inspired others?

What strengths and weaknesses did they face when going through their journey of mental health through the evolution of the industry?

I would love to write something about this topic as it's something I'm really interested in and I would love to see it not only on paper but physically on stage. I figured as I struggle with a few of the focused issues myself I wanted it to come from someone who undertsands the issues and also make it more supported and understood from a younger actresses persective.

1. What you plan to accomplish?

I would like to research real mental health stories in the entertainment industry, and create a piece of theatre to present these stories.

Why you want to do it?

As someone who has struggled with mental health as a creative, I wish to provide more insight into the mental health struggles of members of the industry I want to be a part of.

How you are going to do it?

Interviewing two types of professionals – Mental health professionals on the effects of fame on one's mental wellbeing, and also professional playwrights on methods of writing scripts, allowing me a chance to build on my existing writing skills.

Questions -

Why isn't the mental health of famous artists taken seriously?

What effects on someone's mental health can fame have?

Is it possible to call attention to the mental health of famous artists through a piece of theatre?

Background -

Whilst I have written scripts in the past, I haven't been able to write about mental health specifically. Mental health itself is more focused upon in the modern industry, however it often isn't taken seriously enough, and many people use their fame as a reason why it may not be as bad as they say.
